Can you get a NEMA 4X enclosure with a short lead time?
Yes. We offer a wide range of certified NEMA 4X and IP66-rated enclosures for harsh conditions, and we can deliver samples to UK customers within 24 hours; where an off-the-shelf product does not fit, we can produce a fully customised enclosure. NEMA 4X, defined by the U.S. National Electrical Manufacturers Association, covers indoor and outdoor use needing protection against corrosion, dust, rain, dripping and light splashing of liquids, as well as external ice formation. It is equivalent to UL 50 Type 4X and comparable to the IP66 rating under BS EN 60529. Our GEOS series is one such range.

Can you split an order across different delivery addresses?
Yes, you can split an order across more than one delivery address. Our packing service lets you set a delivery address for each individual item in an order, which is useful if your business runs across several sites or the parts are going into different projects. We can also deliver different components of one product separately, pack into third-party cartons or containers, and supply special or custom-made crates.

Does Spelsberg offer technical support over the phone?
We have offered phone-based technical support since 2015 through our teleservice, Spelsberg Pro-Active. Every enquiry is answered immediately by technically trained sales experts rather than order-takers, so you can get design and specification advice as well as place orders for standard or custom-made enclosures. Orders are processed and confirmed the same day, and you keep a single point of contact from order through to completion.

How do you identify the right electrical enclosure for a project?
To identify the right enclosure for a project, work through four things in order. First, define the dimensions, both outer and inner, based on the room available where the unit will be installed and what it has to contain. Second, consider the environment, which determines the material, the level of protection needed against dust, water and mechanical stress, and any certificate or functional integrity level you require. Third, evaluate the number of distribution units and the dimensions of the cable cross sections you plan to use. Finally, decide whether you need a transparent lid for visibility, or a specific colour for branding or to help operators.

How do you know if an enclosure is suitable for a caravan or camping site?
Enclosures for caravan and camping sites must meet DIN VDE 0100-708, or the equivalent IEC 60364-7-708 used in some countries. Both require a protection class higher than 0, a minimum splash protection rating of IPX4, IPX6 or a protective housing where equipment is cleaned at high pressure, at least IP4X protection against solid materials, and a minimum impact protection rating of IK07 to withstand reasonably foreseeable mechanical stress. Spelsberg's Abox, Abox Pro and GEOS enclosures are all suitable for outdoor caravan and camping sites.

Can Spelsberg supply e-bike charging stations for a café?
Yes. Our BCS Pure and Smart charging solutions are designed for venues such as cafés: both have integrated connectors and are compatible with the common Shimano and Bosch systems. They are rated IP54 against dust and water splashes and IK08 for impact resistance, and the BCS range withstands temperatures between -25 ˚C and +40 ˚C. The Smart version also comes with an app that helps users find the nearest BCS station and reports usage, maintenance and unit status.

Can Spelsberg enclosures be mounted onto round poles?
Our enclosures can be mounted onto round poles using our MSS mast clamp set together with the SRS screw clamp set. The SRS metal band is fastened to the pole and the MSS attaches to the rear of the enclosure, which reduces installation time and secures the enclosure against twisting once installed. The sets fit enclosures of different sizes and poles with diameters ranging from 60 to 210 mm, and the galvanised and stainless steel used gives advanced corrosion protection for a long service life.

What should you consider when choosing a location for an outdoor enclosure?
When choosing a location for an outdoor enclosure, evaluate the particular environmental conditions alongside the enclosure's specifications. The main factors are exposure to direct sunlight and UV radiation, operating temperatures, and water ingress in the form of condensation, precipitation and frost. Some sites also need protection against plant or mould growth, which can compromise the integrity of plastic enclosures, and areas where hazardous or harsh chemicals are present require shielding, such as rugged materials like glass reinforced polyester (GRP) in corrosive environments. The DIN VDE 0100-ff standards provide a good backbone, covering the key requirements for electronic components with nominal voltages up to 1000 V.
