Which electrical enclosures are suitable for modular and precast concrete projects?

Short answer

For modular and precast concrete projects, enclosures need to be fitted to the wall formwork before the concrete is poured, stay in position afterwards, and be strong enough to withstand the pressure of solid concrete while keeping concrete and moisture out. Spelsberg's IBT range is currently the only enclosure range designed specifically for precast concrete and modular construction: the boxes are cast into position in concrete panels and offer the strength and leak-proof performance needed to protect the electrical components inside.

Our IBT range is currently the only enclosure range designed specifically for precast concrete and modular construction projects. IBT boxes are cast into position in concrete panels and combine the strength and leak-proof performance needed to protect the electrical components within the structure.

Prefabricated, modular and off-site build projects happen on a production line, in a controlled factory environment. Precast concrete building components, such as twin walls, are built and assembled there, and the ready-made constructions are then shipped on site as complete units, incorporating all required services such as electrics and plumbing. All electrical fittings therefore need to be integrated into the walls before the building is put together.

In terms of electrical enclosures, this means selecting solutions that can be installed easily on the wall formwork before the concrete is poured, and that remain in the same position afterwards. The housing also needs to be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the solid concrete, and to protect the electrical equipment inside by preventing concrete or moisture from penetrating its structure.

One of the key benefits of off-site construction methods over conventional ones is the short lead time, so manufacturers need a highly responsive supply of enclosures. We support them with a quick turnaround service. Thanks to our manufacturing and warehousing facilities, we can promptly send our customers the solutions they need, even when a bespoke design is required, and we offer a next-day delivery service for custom samples.
