Tom
Hello Tom,
Thanks for the question!
Electrical enclosures for precast concrete buildings need to withstand extreme conditions. The most important factor is that the products are specifically designed and approved for installation into concrete, in the past products used within precast concrete installations have had to be modified to try and ensure they are sealed for the application (not always successful!!).
Housings should be leak-resistant to avoid any concrete penetrating into the structure, remember, products are cast into the concrete, they are not load bearing items, finally product needs to remain absolutely stable, secure in position during the pouring of the concrete.
An additional aspects you may want to consider is ease of installation, as it can help streamlining the intended precast concrete construction project.
As far as I am aware, Spelsberg is the only provider of housings and accessories that are specifically designed for precast concrete construction projects.
Spelsberg’s IBT range of enclosures are easy to install and offer a diaphragm seal between the product and the ribbed conduit, thus protecting the product from any ingree when concrete is being poured. Also, our IBT solutions features high positional stability.
In addition, our IBTronic systems are ideal for integration of luminaires, speakers or high-quality electronics in precast concrete ceilings.
You can look at Spelsberg’s IBT offering here: https://www.spelsberg.co.uk/solutions/concrete-construction/products/ibt-system/
