Dear Bernard,

Thank you for your query. At Spelsberg, our dedication to safety and environmental responsibility is paramount, leading us to use halogen-free materials for all our core products. Halogens, including fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine, can release toxic gases when exposed to fire. By excluding these chemicals from our enclosures, we not only adhere to rigorous safety standards, such as DIN VDE 0100-718, but also ensure our products provide the utmost in protection and reliability.

Using halogen-free materials, especially in products designed for use in public areas, rescue routes, and other regulated spaces, significantly reduces the emission of toxic gases and smoke in the event of a fire. This is crucial for maintaining air quality and facilitating safer evacuation processes. Also, this approach minimises health risks to individuals and prevents the release of corrosive gases that could damage electronic components or compromise structural integrity.

Halogen-free materials can be found within the majority of our product lineup and especially in our Lifeline range of enclosures: https://www.spelsberg.com/geos-industrial-and-outdoor-enclosures/lifeline/. We have designed the Lifeline series to meet the highest standards of protection and durability, including DIN 4102 part 12, and certification in accordance with VDE and ULEU, providing up to 90 minutes of protection during a fire.
