Dear Andrew,

You don’t have to be an expert to know that electrical equipment and water don’t mix very well, so keeping components dry is crucial for its proper functioning. This is true no matter where your project is taking place, but when it comes to harsh environments like areas that are flood-prone or even completely underwater, you need enclosures with a high ingress protection (IP) rating. For example, our range of enclosures with an IP68 rating are designed to withstand continuous immersion in water, even beyond a depth of one meter.

One of our top products for these kinds of underwater applications is the Spelsberg Abox XT series. These junction boxes are crafted from robust polycarbonate, making them highly resistant to impact, shock, and the weather. They also feature double-membrane seals that provide superior protection against water ingress.

Each Abox XT junction box also comes with everything you need for a safe, secure installation, including a bag of cast resin, funnel, ventilation seals, and a pair of disposable gloves. The resin seals the connection terminals, enhancing the waterproof capability, and can be easily removed and re-applied, which makes any future maintenance or adjustments straightforward.

On top of offering traditional screw terminals, we can also supply the Abox Pro XT with WAGO’s innovative screwless clamping technology. This simplifies installation by eliminating the need for traditional screws, making the process quicker and more efficient, reducing the risk of loose wires—something particularly beneficial in challenging environments where maintenance can be difficult.

Regardless of which choices are best for your project, every option in the Abox XT series has undergone rigorous testing, including 168 hours of submersion at water depths up to 15 meters, meeting the DIN EN 60529 standards for IP protection. Additionally, they are certified according to DIN VDE V 0606-22-100, which ensures they meet the highest standards for electrical enclosures.
