Hi Aref,
The slope of protective roofs for electrical enclosures installed outdoors plays a key role in protecting the enclosure and electrical appliances within against environmental conditions such as snow, rain, wind, ice formation, temperatures and solar radiation. In particular, providing an adequate slope is essential to ensure that snow and rain will fall to the ground without accumulating onto the roof.
Most manufacturers adopt a minimum roof pitch of 20°-30°. However, the minimum roof slope for optimal drainage greatly depends on site-specific conditions as well as on the dimensions of the enclosures, particularly their depths. Therefore, there is no standard or regulation governing the slope of protective roofs for electrical enclosures installed outdoors.
For example, the largely adopted German standard DIN VDE 0100-712 (VDE 0100-712) “Low-voltage electrical installations – Requirements for special installations or locations – Solar photovoltaic (PV) power supply systems” only states that “External influences that can be anticipated, such as wind, ice formation, temperatures and solar radiation, must be taken into account. It should therefore be ensured during installation that the housing is protected by a roof construction”. As a result, manufacturers need to be able to define what is the minimum roof pitch required for a given application.
